There are 5 levels of certification and 3 components as follows:
Theory | Component A, B and Level 3
Technical | Levels 1 through 5
Practical | Levels 1 through 5 (Levels 4 & 5 included in Technical)
In order to be officially recognized as being certified at any level a coach must have successfully completed the requirements for each of the three components offered at that level.
Theory is the sport-general component that is administered by the provincial government and is generally offered in the form of seminars at community colleges, universities, etc. The principles of planning, safety, skill analysis and growth and development are presented to coaches with various sports backgrounds. Coaches with a Bachelors degree are exempt from Level 1 Theory course work but must complete a Level 2 Theory course. Certain other exemptions and equivalencies are available at other levels. Details may be obtained by contacting Coaches Association of Ontario.
