Netball Ontario Express N’ Play Program primary goal is to eliminate the barriers that prevent girls from participating in physical activities/sports and to provide a forum for participants to discuss healthy eating habits and injury prevention whilst learning basic netball skills. The Express n' Play Program is funded by a grant from The Trillium Foundation.
Program Definition
Within the targeted communities across the province, Netball Ontario will collaborate with municipal public health branches, local schools and other local community organizations to deliver an eight (8) week outreach program. The program will target visible minority girls and young women between the ages 12 – 24.
The program is unique and has a wide appeal; it is designed to attract girls and young women from different cultural background, to participate safely in sports, develop healthy eating habits, and essential life skills.
While the Express N' Play program is directed towards young women from multicultural backgrounds, all girls and women are welcome.
Express - Portion of the Program (30 Minutes)
A registered dietitian and a certified professional in injury prevention will deliver this segment of the program. This will consists of two (2) interactive and informative workshops on injury prevention and healthy eating habits.
Play – Portion of the Program (60 Minutes)
Netball Ontario trained instructors/coaches will deliver the play portion of the program. The instructor will deliver eight (8) netball sessions that will be divided into the following three main areas:
O Warm up
O Skills development
O Game Play
