Theory
The pass mark for the theory exam certification shall be 80% based on a written test on the rules of the game and the expectations of umpiring at this level. If a candidate passes his/her theory and the practical is not completed for this level, then he/she shall be required to resit the theory, but if only if there is a rule change by the IFNA during that period. However that candidate will be required to attend rules clinics in order to maintain his/her pass mark in the theory.Prerequisites for Advanced Level - Practical
Firstly, candidates will need to be successful in the Intermediate level certification. Then candidates will need to be successful in the Advanced level theory. After candidates have gained suitable umpiring practice at the league level, they may then apply to the Director of Umpiring or through their clubs for consideration to be tested, who will in turn contact the Director of Umpiring/Committee member.A candidate shall umpire a minimum of six (6) division one (1) games at the league level, under the “watchful eye” of a member of the Umpiring Committee. If recommended by the Umpiring Director/Committee member, the candidate shall be tested on his/her next game umpired. In certain special circumstances a candidate may be recommended to be tested at a game sanctioned by the Director of Umpiring, other than those mentioned above.
Practical tests for Advance Level certification
Candidates will be required to umpire a division one (1) or a provincial game for a full IFNA time (1 hour) or as otherwise determined by the Director of Umpiring or the testers involved. They will be expected to show their ability in the application of the rule at an advanced stage for controlling the game.As part of the practical, Candidates shall be prepared to answer an oral question as set by the testers, given approval by the Director of Umpiring. The pass mark for the practical certification shall be 85%.
Candidates are given two chances to pass the practical, after passing the theory. If the candidate is unsuccessful on both attempts, the theory shall be re-sit.
